Olof Qvickström

Nickname: Olof
Country: Finland - Role: Artist

I started watercolor painting when I was about 20 years old. I studied 1976-1979 and 1984-85 at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, called ”Atski”. In addition to my studies, I worked as an art teacher in junior high school and in college for a while.

From 1985 to 2019, I worked at Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yleisradio) as a reporter, director and producer. I got a chance to work on TV graphics and did some signature animations that I did using watercolor techniques.  In 2015, I joined Yleisradio's YLE Art Club and started painting regularly.

In less than ten years, I have participated in several exhibitions.  I have been fortunate to be involved in the construction of several domestic exhibitions. I really like designing and installing exhibitions.

Since 2020, I have been involved in the activities of the Finnish Watercolor Society as a member of the board.

The passion for painting has varied over the decades. Usually my way to paint is very slow because of using several layers of colors. I let each layer dry and then I make a wash with clean water on both sides of the paper and when its dry again I continue painting. And then I continue as long I’m satisfyied with the result. On the contrary sometimes I paint very quickly using wet on wet when doing demo-painting. To paint with watercolours is every time a pleasant and an exiting experience both in a slowhand-style or in quickhand-style.
