Anita Govan

Nickname: Ani
Country: South Africa - Role: Artist

Anita's art has been featured in national and international juried exhibitions including South Africa, India, Indonesia, Slovenia and Poland. She is a retired teacher who gives art instruction to children, students and adults.

Painting is a holistic experience for her as she finds it to be a deeply meditatative process which allows her to connect with her inner being. Anita finds inspiration from the bounty of nature and her work reflects a personal and emotional response to her subjects. Florals play a special role as she believes that these are natures masterpieces with each blossom having a sacred geometry of it's own.

ARTIST STATEMENT

'Although I do work in other mediums at times, I prefer watecolours. It suits my personality and portrays my mantra in life "go with flow'. The spontaneity, unpredictability and the happy accidents in this medium give my work a unique expresion. I often have a vision of how I would like my painting to turn out but it inevitably takes on a life of it's own. I derive great satisfaction when I am enjoying the process rather than the end product.

Vibrant colour, the play of light and the balance between realistic and free flowing elements are vital elements in my work.'

Anita is a member of WASA and IWSSA.
