Gillian D’Ambrosio

Nickname: Gill
Country: England - Role: Artist
FabrianoInAcquarello 2024 Artist

I have always enjoyed the creative process and have practised many arts and crafts whilst living abroad for over 30 years in Italy, Sweden, Belgium, France and Turkey, being inspired by the art and culture in each of these countries.

Now living in London in winter and spending summer in Italy, I have rediscovered my love of drawing and painting.

I only paint in watercolour as I find it the most challenging medium so I will need to live until I am at least 100 to feel I have a handle on it! I find inspiration from the world around me from nature, architecture and people. I am attracted to a variety of subjects to interpret artistically from landscapes to a rusty hinge on a door!

I have taken part in various exhibitions in London including at Tate Modern and the Saatchi gallery. Several pictures of mine were also selected for an exhibition at Palazzo Ducale in Genova Italy and the Urban Sketchers London 10th Anniversary book.  I have been selected as one of the 200 top artists out of 3000 entries for the International Watercolour Masters 24 exhibition in the UK and have taken part in Fabriano in 22 and 23.

BEACH HUTS ON A STORMY DAY

A misty early morning in the park. 56 x 38cm Arches paper

Cabbies Shelter, St Johns Wood, London. These are places where taxi drivers can have something to eat and drink. Unfortunately there are only a few of these that have survived and are in use in London now.

Zuppa Inglese The Italian translation for this Trifle does not really do this dessert justice only my opinion

It Takes Allsorts These are typical British sweets called Allsorts and the play on words refers to how we are all different shapes and sizes like these!
