Tom is best known for his realistic and representational depictions of Canadian and international landscapes. He was born in Alberta, Canada. He lives in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and he holds a Master's Degree in City Planning from the University of Manitoba.
Tom's interest in watercolours began in 1994/95 as a member of the Aurora Art Guild in Regina. His early works were displayed in commercial galleries in Banff and Waterton National Parks as well as in Regina.
In 1999, Tom was elected into the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour. Shortly after in 2000, one of his paintings of northern Saskatchewan was accepted as an additions to the Royal Collection in Winsor Castle. In 2015, another one of his paintings was selected for exhibition in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as part of the CSPWC's Open Water Exhibition.
More recently in 2017, Tom retired from his public service career and focused on his watercolours. In 2018, two of his landscapes were juried into exhibitions in Ontario and one of those was also juried into an exhibition at Le Coitre St. Louis in Avignon, France as part of a Canada - France exchange.
Tom's work continues to be recognized in international venues. After becoming a member of IWS Canada, in 2021, his paintings of scenes from a Japanese Garden were juried into virtual exhibitons in France and Vietnam, and his painting of a waterfall was juried into the First North American IWS exhibition involving entries from the Canada, United States, and Mexico.
Tom and his watercolours were published in a feature article in Watercolour Artist Magazine in the spring of 2021.
