Susanna Sääskilahti

Nickname: Susa
Country: Finland - Role: Artist

In watercolor, I love its lightness, challenge, versatility, and naturalness compared to many other painting mediums. I have been painting watercolors for more than ten years in the courses of several different teachers both in Finland and abroad. In art, I am constantly inspired by nature and its wonders. Beauty and colors are important to me in my life and paintings. I also sometimes describe the relationship with nature in my works and reflect on man's relationship with nature. Art history also inspires me as an author. Ars Longa - Vita brevis, art long, short life. Through art, we can join the intergenerational chain and make our own contribution through creativity. My competition work "Nordic Immigrant" is influenced by the iconic works of Finnish visual art, but I have combined them in a new way with a subject that is important to me, birds.  I love birds and actively follow them. I saw this in the winter of 2022 near Helsinki. In the painting, I combine the visual art heritage of our country combined with our new immigrant.

Nordic Immigrant, 2022.
