To me art has always been a gateway to expressing myself.

My name is Libby, and I am an autistic artist (with co-occurring conditions like SID (sensory integration dysfunction), High functioning anxiety, depression, Fibromyalgia, and suspected ADHD), my work centres around breaking stigmas and assumptions around nuances to do with disability, with a particular focus on autism and neurodiverse experiences.

Most of my work is based on my own experiences as a neurodivergent individual living in a society made for the perceived “normal” experiences of neurotypicals.

I convey these themes through explorations of self-portraiture, through mixed media techniques, though sketching in colourfull pens/pencils, and experimental painting.

A lot of my work also features the feathery/furry members of my family, as to me they form an integral part of my identity as a person and an artist.

For my Degree show  I created a series of work I call ‘Life in the MADHOUSE’, where I explored what the ‘Normal within the Abnormal’ my life is, and my experiences as a disabled individual in today’s society through art.

Through creating I have found ways to explain/depict difficulties I personally struggle with, such as living with autism. Through my art I hope to help others to understand something they have no knowledge or prior experience with, and to start conversations catered around awareness and acceptance through art and creativity.
