About me

Enza Viceconte – Artist

Enza Viceconte, a watercolour artist, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and currently lives and works in Tuscany. Her artistic research focuses on the emotional and symbolic relationship with the sea, a recurring and central subject in her work. Through delicate washes, transparencies and suspended atmospheres, she offers the viewer a liquid universe made of memories, silences and quiet nostalgia.

Throughout her career, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Italy and abroad, receiving recognition and selections in prestigious museums, biennials and international galleries. Her works have been shown in the United States, China, Colombia, Spain, Belgium, and in many Italian cities.

She has taken part in major international events dedicated to watercolour and continues to present her work in museums, galleries and cultural institutions across the world. In 2023 she presented her solo exhibition The Moods of the Sea at Artime Gallery in Udine.

Themes

“The Sea is Memory”

“I paint the sea so as not to forget.
Not only what I see, but what I feel: calm, nostalgia, silence.
Every wave is a memory rising to the surface, every reflection a story.
For me the sea is a liquid archive, a place where time never ends, but returns.
My painting is made of glazes, waiting, transparencies: like memory, it is fragile and persistent.
I come from an inland region, yet I chose to live on an island.
Perhaps for this reason the sea accompanies me, consoles me, and unsettles me.
With watercolour I try to capture the passing light, to preserve what remains.”

Viceconte’s poetics regard the sea as an inner landscape, a space where emotions and fragments of memory emerge. Her works narrate the continuous dialogue between light and water, presence and disappearance, what remains and what slips away.
