About me

Mandy was born in Edinburgh in 1961 and is now settled in Norfolk, UK.

She wa a professional classical musician until work-related injuries brought this to an end in 2022. She first became interested in learning art in 2021 with a Level 2 Art & Design Diploma for beginners. Art has now become a major player in her life in a professional capacity, as a creative outlet and the best pain-relief going.

Mandy has brought elements of music and her experience of Ballroom, Latin and Argentine dance to her art. Hence she has a keen interest in movement and the vibrational qualities of colour and it's effect on the psyche. This is reflected in her abstract art. She recently finished a collection of art dedicated to Argentine Tango.

Her interest in watercolour commenced at the end of 2022 with Artefacto Online School. Since then she has studied with many world-leading artists – Konstantin Sterkhov, Sterling Edwards, Javid Tabatabaei and Andy Evansen to name but a few.

Mandy likes the spontaneity of watercolour. For abstracts the initial design is based only on a few key linear and curved shapes. For landscapes and seascapes these are preceded by small tonal sketches in graphite.

Mandy completed Level 4 Art and Design Diploma in July 2024, with her principal medium being oils.   She regularly exhibits at The Forum, Norwich and through other organisations of which she is a member – West Norfolk Artists’ Association, Swanton Morley Art Club and Greyfriar’s Space, King’s Lynn. She had her first solo exhibition in King’s Lynn in November 2024. Working professionally, she has made private and corporate sales. Her keen interest in watercolour abstract was rewarded with being shortlisted for the SAA British Artist of The Year competition in 2024.
