About me

My passion is to paint in watercolour, and I am privileged to do so all around Australia and abroad. I love the translucency of colour, the fluidity of the brush strokes and the depth of feeling and emotion I create. Nothing shines like the white in watercolour and this allows me to capture the light and atmosphere in my paintings.

As an artist I paint to express feelings about my observations. I make a personal and individual statement about my environment. I don’t paint what I see, rather I paint my emotional and intellectual response to the visual world surrounding me, and watercolour allows me the freedom and creativity to do this. It is an exciting process capturing the essence of my world, ranging from impressionist realism to more abstract concepts, by analysing the underlying structure of colour, shape and form.

I have two main themes in my work. I relate to the earth seen in outback Australia, into which I have made many journeys, and to water where I capture the luminosity and reflective qualities of coastal scenes. My outback travels through the Kimberley, the Simpson Desert, the Pilbara, the Gulf country and Cape York Peninsula have provided me with the opportunity to paint ‘en plein-air’ and collect invaluable resources for my studio work.

My passion for coastal painting stems from my family history in Lakes Entrance, East Gippsland, where I run an open Studio / Gallery. I spend a lot of my time in East Gippsland, and I delight in sketching and painting the fishing boats, the wharves and the activity, as well as the beaches and coastal scenes in the area.

I am active in the Australian art community, including as a past Vice-President of the Watercolour Society of Victoria and the Watercolour Society of Australia, and currently as an exhibiting member of the Victorian Artists Society, Australian Guild of Realist Artists, and The Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors.
