My name is Stefka Yancheva. I was born in Bulgaria and moved to Toronto, Canada in the early 2000s, where I’ve lived since then.
Growing up, my favourite pastime was drawing and colouring, which gradually expanded to taking art classes in my teens (when I believed I‘d become an artist when I grew up!).
Since the days of childhood sketches, when I learned to observe and appreciate the calm stillness of nature, ordinary life, human emotions, light, and shapes, I have fallen deeply in love with the endless beauty of the world around us.
Later, excelling at math (and a parental nudge in that direction) led me to becoming a computer engineer. Almost 40 years later, I picked up the pencil and the brush again and rekindled my childhood passion. At first, I thought I was starting from the beginning, but surprisingly there was a lot of ‘muscle memory’ in my hands. And an itch to do more. One thing led to another, and soon I found myself immersed in online classes and art workshops.
The process of learning and creating has been both humbling and exhilarating, as I delve into the world of watercolour – a medium that captivates me and challenges me with its unpredictability, fluidity and lightness.
My goal is to invite viewers into my inner world of colour and mood. I believe that there is an energy exchange and emotions flow in the process of creating art.
