About me

Born in Panama. She practiced her profession as an architect for 22 years, mostly dedicated to the field of architectural restoration of Panama's historical heritage.

In the last seven years she has developed her talents as a watercolorist, initially taking courses on this technique in Westchester County, New York, using sumi ink, asian brushes and other traditional techniques, motivated her to return to her passion for painting that she had since she was a child.

She participated as Guest Artist at the III Biennial of Contemporary Art of Genoa, 2019. In August 2019 she held her first solo exhibition with a large sample of 78 watercolors at the University of Panama. During these last years she has participated in watercolor exhibitions such as the Alfredo Guati Rojo International Watercolor Biennial of Mexico, IWS festivals and the other organizations in the world. Her works have been exhibited in Mexico, the French Pyrenees, Kosovo, Madrid, Córdoba, Singapore, Vietnam, among others.

She is currently leader of the International Watercolor Society (IWS) Panama, a subsidiary of the International IWS Globe art network, dedicated to the promotion of watercolor around the world. She pioneered the first National Watercolor Contest by IWS Panama in 2021.

Lía tell us: “I am passionate about watercolor because it is a technique of constant challenges, every time you start a work, you cannot know if things will go wrong or surprisingly well. Everything will depend on how you feel, your state of mind and in addition to the handling of colors, the stroke of the brushes, the degrees of saturation or dominance of the water on the paper. You can achieve intentional or unforeseen effects, watercolor surprises, edifies, gives you moments of great happiness when you manage to master it and create images and compositions that cause visual impacts or different emotions on yourself or on the viewers”.
