I am a visual artist specializing in painting and drawing. I graduated in Havana, Cuba, from the “20 de Octubre” High School of Visual Arts; the “San Alejandro” National Academy of Fine Arts, and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA). It was twelve years of continuous, increasingly complex studies, that allowed me to acquire extensive technical mastery, as well as a sense of self-criticism, appreciation, and research in the field of art.
Also, I worked four years in the restoration and conservation of easel paintings, where practical experience and several courses in this area complemented my artistical and technical knowledge. I also worked as a teacher of Art History, Painting and Drawing, both in Cuba and Canada, giving courses for children, teenagers and adults. I have participated and held both group and solo exhibitions and I'm member of the IWS Canada (International Watercolor Society).
Because I place great importance on practice and continuous improvement, I continue to surpass myself and delve deeper into artistic techniques through books and courses offered by various talented contemporary artists, mainly in the media I work with the most: watercolor, pastel, drawing, and oil painting.
Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums. I'm drawn to it because of the transparency of the colors, the delicacy and subtlety of the technique, and the self-confidence and precision it requires. I find it very suitable for expressing one of the most recurring ideas in my work: the perception, expression, and representation of nature's energy. Having grown up in a semi-rural environment, I have a deep relationship with plants, animals, and the landscape. They are one of my greatest motivations. I see in them a very high level of perfection, beauty and importance, from both a visual and ecological perspective, and above all, I feel the energy we share and that unites us.
