About me

Zoran Runcev - Runo

From Palette to Picture

Having a blank clean piece of paper in front of me creates a feeling of awe and respect for the work I am about to commit to it.  I don’t approach the paper with a particular idea in mind – I let my senses guide me spontaneously to reflect a particular given moment or mood.  Sometimes the drawing or print evolves immediately and in a great number, at other times I multi-layer the image, seeing each individual picture differently as I look at it again and again.  The sketches that I am doing are not on the paper, but are always in my mind’s album of memories, and I can return from time to time, to snap or ‘download’ those sketches and use them as a part of compositions that I am currently working on, without the sense of being stuck or a loss of inspiration.  Sometimes this lead to my revisiting and reworking old drawings and prints until I arrive at the point that I feel it is finally completed.

I am not an artist who only believes the finished picture should be seen – I enjoy the interaction of showing work in progress and using people’s different views and feelings towards my work to help shape the direction of my work.  I am happy when I see that my work inspires all sorts of different images and reactions as it is then I feel that I have fulfilled my role of presenting the artwork as something that gives the viewer a very personal reaction or feel towards it.

I like to explore different styles and techniques, bearing in mind to preserve my own individual signature which is freehand lines layered over the initial drawing or print, as a means of framing the object or as a finishing touch to the picture.  I am not limited with the palette that I am using, I frequently multi-layer on the image using the full spectrum of colours to reflect the depth and mood of the picture, be it in any medi
