My wife and I retired to the Abruzzo region of Italy in a small village near Rosciano. We live near beautiful views of the Apennine mountains and numerous olive groves. Our region is well known for producing great olive oil. Also, Abruzzo has many outstanding villages and landscapes and give an infinite amount of inspiration for watercolor painting. I enjoy taking a sketchbook to the numerous villages and do a quick sketch while having a cup of coffee.
Prior to retiring to Italy we lived in North Carolina in the United States where I was in a group that painted portraits each week. This is where I learned drawing and slowly improved my watercolor skills.
I worked in Information Technology and didn’t start painting until I was in my 50’s. We lived in Minnesota for many years and I started to do bookbinding at the center for book arts in Minneapolis. After making several sketchbooks I thought I should do something with them so I started watercolor.
Painting allows me to slow down and observe the world in ways I could never do prior to painting. Also, I have met and will continue to meet many wonderful artists and people as a result of painting.
