Stella Xiaohuan Dai was born in Shanghai, China. Drawing become her hobby since childhood. She studied sketch and color from local art school and art institute on her leisure time.
Stella immigrated to Toronto in 1998. Since then, she has worked as a professional Database Administer for one Telecom Company. She readopted painting couple years later, she took watercolour, acrylic, and traditional Chinese painting lessons from various artists such as Yaohua Yan, Margaret Roseman and workshops from Alvaro Castagnet, Joseph Zbukvic, Janet Rogers, Ping long etc. When painting, she immerses herself fully which helps her relieve daily chaos and work stress. Gradually painting turns to an essential way for her to deliver emotions and reflect her interpretation of life.
Her style combines realism and impressionism. Sensitive feeling towards objects, passion but not exaggeration, Stella controls media bold with brush stroke meanwhile compromises by color transformation and value balance which reveals her oriental background.
Stella is a member of Canadian Society of Painters in Water Color and Toronto Watercolor Society. Her works were rewarded multiple times by different shows. In 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2022, her paintings were selected by Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour’s annual Open Water exhibition.
