Hi everyone!
I am a self-taught watercolour artist living in northwestern Ontario. From my studio, I see the big lake that gives our community it's name....Red Lake. But my little town is called Cochenour.
I love to take photographs, and I love colour. About 5 years ago, I wanted to lean how to paint. I chose watercolours because they are portable, they are easy to rewet and use, and very practical. I launched into years of research into watercolour paints, pigments, binders and colour theory. I feel I am finally beginning to grasp things....though I am always anxious to learn more and gain skills. This medium is ever so challenging, and I do love a challenge.
I studied and worked in the natural sciences for years, and am a bit of a nerd. I also love details and strive to capture a realistic facsimile of what I see. My greatest joys are layering glazes of many colours to arrive at the final result that I am looking for. I love single pigment paints that are transparent, staining and non-granulating for the most part....
I have Tourette Disorder Plus (OCD and ADHD) and began painting to help treat my anxiety. This means that my hands do not always work the way I want them to. Some days are better than others. But painting is an active meditation, which pulls me in and gives my mind a break. It is therapy to me, and if it brings joy to someone else, I am very blessed.
Thank you for reading this! Happy painting!
