As a painter, David has already gained his artistic skills at a very early age. During his youth, he was inspired by his grandfather, who was a self-taught artist. At Piran High School, David attended art courses at the private school of fine arts Forum Piranense under the guidance of academic painters Aleš Sedmak and Andrej Trobentar. Participating in the art contest Ex-tempore Korte in 1995, he was awarded 1st prize for his watercolor. After graduating from high school, he passed the entrance exam for the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana (UL ALU) and enrolled in the Department of Painting. For personal reasons, he then left the Academy and entered the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport (UL FPP).
David rediscovered his passion for watercolors by coincidence in 2018 when creating accompanying images for his book. While being faithful to strict realism until recently, he is currently striving to achieve a more abstract result, tending towards impressionism to a certain extent. He is attracted to special lighting conditions with strong light and shadows and intriguing, eye-catching color combinations that are expressed through strong values and color harmony. The topics for his paintings come mostly from his own neighbourhood and close environment, which include rural scenes, interesting town views, as well as marinas and salt evaporation ponds of SeÄovlje.
