About me
“Barry Collocott was born in South Africa in 1947. His first experiences as an artist was during his High School years in Mufulira, Zambia, where he studied Art under Mr Laing.
His initial influences were the Renaissance artists, particularly Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, eventually expanding to include the Impressionists, a style he still favours.
It was at this early stage that he realized that he wanted to pursue his interest in this field.
Believing that being an artist is something that one is born to do and not necessarily only learned at school, he went on to study through practical experience, learning through trial and error and self learning studying the works of several Masters as his teachers.
He further expanded on his knowledge in design, working for several years as a designer for one of the largest textile companies in South Africa.
Currently working primarily in acrylics and oils, watercolour remains his favourite medium. Now retired from commercial employment, he currently works from his East London home in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa”
