I graduated from the Estonian Academy of Art (then Estonian State Art Institute) in 1981, specialising in glass art. My interests, however, have always encompassed a wider range of art forms: oil painting, watercolour, leatherware, printmaking, electronic arts, sound installations etc. I keep returning to the interplay of visuals and sound.
I have participated in exhibitions since 1976, and opened my first solo exhibition “Beauty of Destruction” in 1993 at the Franklin25 gallery in Minneapolis, where I resided throughout the 1990s.
I returned to Estonia in 2002, and have been active in the Baltic art scene since. Besides group and solo exhibitions, that includes collaboration projects with dancers and musicians.
I create interactive objects and environments, using a wide variety of materials and techniques. The audience is often invited to interact with the works, use them as musical instruments or make them react to sound.
Lately, I’ve rediscovered painting, both in oil and watercolour, and joined the Estonian Watercolour Society in 2021.
