I am an award winning artist connected to the Cape geography at the southern tip of Africa. I live, work and teach art as a fifth generation teacher to adults in Cape Town, South Africa.
I have always felt an affinity for watercolour. I am a "thin pigment" artist. Watercolour is the most portable medium, as well as the most light-capturing medium in the beauty of its transparent glazes. I enjoy using watercolour in its most traditional way to build form through realism, dissolving form through impressionism and experimenting with watercolour used with charcoal drawings. Watercolour has also helped me discover oils in a watercolour type of way using thin, transparent layers of pigment.
I am inspired by Dutch and Flemish Golden Age master works, Durer and Turner. It was a surprise to me to see artists like van Huysum used watercolour sketches to plan his paintings.
I have had four solo exhibitions and am busy preparing for my fifth. I have also exhibited in many group exhibitions in Cape Town, Grahamstown and Johannesburg since 1998. My works are in numerous private collections worldwide.
