Vanessa Gai was born in Empoli, where she currently lives and works.
She trained in a painting studio, a crucial experience that saw her engaged for over ten years in the creation of art copies, commissioned works, and personal research. Over time, she furthered her education by attending the Nemo Academy in Florence (2010–2013) and a Master's degree in Editorial Illustration at Ars in Fabula in Macerata (2017), as well as various illustration workshops. She is currently continuing her studies at the Martenot School in Southern Florence.
Her practice focuses primarily on painting techniques—watercolor, oil, acrylic, and pastel—with forays into collage and printmaking. Her visual language stems from a deeply emotional and introspective approach, in which gesture and color become tools of personal exploration. Her work reveals a fascination with chromatic contrasts, opposites (light and shadow, chaos and harmony), and a symbolic use of form.
Through her work, Vanessa explores the relationship between inner perception and visual representation, alternating moments of fluidity with more material expressions, between color and black and white. Her constantly evolving artistic journey reflects her search for an authentic and personal language.
In recent years, she has resumed her exhibition activity, presenting solo shows 'Vanessenza' (Mulino del Ronzone, 2024) and 'La bellezza dell’essere' (Galleria Roccart, Florence, 2024).
