Frank Patrick Murphy Hernandez

Nickname:
Country: Mexico - Role: Artist

Frank Murphy was born in Mexico City in 1987, where he has lived his entire life. Although he is a self-taught artist, he holds a PhD in mathematics from UNAM and has nurtured his passion for painting since childhood. Taking advantage of the pandemic, he dedicated himself to deepening his technical skills and developing a unique artistic style characterized by a surrealistic approach. His work is infused with influences from renowned artists, such as Remedios Varo, whose mysticism and exploration of the dreamlike resonate deeply in his creations, inspiring the development of fantastic worlds that invite reflection. The ornamental richness and sensuality of Gustav Klimt are evident in his use of color and texture, while Egon Schiele’s expressive portrayal of the human figure challenges conventions and captures emotional complexity. Additional influences include Odd Nerdrum, Andrew Wyeth, and Oskar Kokoschka, who inspire his exploration of the human condition, light and landscape, and the bold use of color and form.

Currently, Frank primarily expresses himself through watercolor, while also exploring pen techniques to further develop his artistic voice. His intention is to provoke philosophical reflections in the style of Giorgio de Chirico, creating images that suggest hidden narratives and deep meanings. His work is not part of any specific collection. Since 2022, he has been a member of the Mexican Watercolor Society, joining a community of talented Mexican watercolorists.
