Yair David Ph.D.

Yair is Israeli, born and raised on a kibbutz, and living at present in Ramat Hasharon. His formal education is as an engineer, patent aterny, legal expert, and Ph.D.

He acquired his fundamental painting skills at the end of the 1950’s, at national art courses for kibbutz youth, and over the years from leading Israeli artists, including Avigdor Steimatzky.

In the 19th century, British landscape artists found inspiration in the natural beauty of the British Isles, to develop methods for watercolor painting that were intended to capture the full range of the effects of the atmosphere on the light. Yair learned these painting techniques from an artist in Wales.

His paintings have been shown in solo and group exhibits in over 50 galleries and museums, in Israel and abroad, including group exhibits in the National Museum of Kosovo, the Indira Gandhi National Center of Arts, New Delhi, India and in the Israeli Museum in Jerusalem.

The main theme of Yair’s work is open landscapes, naval scenes, and buildings from Israel and other countries, painted in the 19th century British methods, including meticulous sketching on paper and placing translucent layers of color one on top of the other, with particularly transparent pigments for the atmosphere, and slightly more opaque placement for solid elements. Working from light to dark, from warm to cold, while balancing these along with calm and stormy, and combining intellect and emotion
