Jo Uygongco grew up doodling on scratch papers laying around. Her artistic streak influenced by her father Eduardo Uygongco, who’s also a painter. It wasn't until 2014, when she chanced upon an art class inside a mall, that she picked up the paintbrush and she hasn't stopped since. Her teacher, Eileen Bondoc-Escueta, introduced her to various mediums, which she readily explored as quickly as she could, as if making up for lost time. Watercolor, Chinese brush painting, acrylic and pastel painting are her current palette.
She sketches and paints whenever and wherever she could. With a mini painting kit tucked in her bag, she tries to capture every moment or object that captures her attention. Jo uses social media to share her passion for art, food, travel, and photography. And she has even coined the word #SketchEat to invite others to journey along with her.
But Jo is not wont to stay in one place too long. As her travel miles have increased by leaps and bounds, so has her thinking and intuition grown to encompass a myriad of possibilities. Over the recent years, Jo has ventured into more intuitive art forms, choosing to be less in control and to just go with the FLOW.
These days, the character of her art has transformed and so has the nature of Jo, the artist. In 2022, Jo was one of the Global Top 50 awardees in the Stylized & Abstract category at the "Global Art Connection Watercolour Exposition France Poland 2022". Jo has been invited to participate in the most prestigious watercolor competition and exhibition in the Philippines, KULAY SA TUBIG, since 2021. She has had paintings juried in into Fabriano in Acquarello Italy since 2018; ten IWS biennale exhibits in the past years (Hong Kong, Albania, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Nepal); and the IWS-Philippines Watercolor Convention and Exhibit in GSIS Museo ng Sin
