I grew up in the Uk and studied graphic design before coming to Switzerland and starting my own graphic design business in Zurich
I love the spontaneity of watercolour. Most people say it's the most difficult painting medium to use - after all if you make a mistake in oil or acrylic you can paint over it. However I feel a good composition is also extremely important so after a fairly detailed mental sketch I work fast often without thinking, sweeping the brush across the paper and often completing a painting quickly. The freshness and depth of colour are achieved with very limited colour palette often only using 3 colours, 1 red, 1 yellow and 1 blue. It is important not to overpaint and certainly to know when to stop and reflect.
At the moment I’m trying to draw attention to single use plastics and environmental issues so I’m trying to paint an attractive painting with an ugly underlying message.
